Thanks, Theresa.
We plan to have links above only of people that we actually are friends with in real life. Until you and us become friends, we're certainly very happy to leave your link here as a comment. Good luck with your site and business.

This is my first time visiting your site. I owe my visit to a friend and neighbor who posted about the community meeting on fb. We live on Othello and Rainier and are working to stay up on what is happening. Thanks for your post. Related to this Shiny page you might like to know that we also have a groovy small business (looking to grow up someday) called Sustaining Structures. We work on all types of commercial and multifamily buildings to help them perform better. YES. Buildings can perform better! We are currently trying to get the word out about Seattle's energy use and benchmarking ordinance that requires all buildings over 10,000 square feet, including multifamily buildings with 5+ attached units to get into compliance before April 1. Here is a link that even features our president, Kevin Dingle: http://www.sustainablebusiness.com/index.cfm/go/news.display/id/23174

So...we would love any help you can be in getting the word out about the ordinance, or about the fun work we are doing!

Cheers,
Theresa

Dear Neighbors,
I am out of the country and watching this from afar, although my homesitter/pet care giver is very much aware and involved. What concerns me is this:
1) what kind of city/government long term action is planned to involve those in gangs, to get them off the streets (so to speak) and into a better life pattern?
2) are we able to legally and prominently post photos of suspects? I've seen one photo taken of a suspect in a robbery but have not been sure if it's been disseminated and posted and if that's legal.
3) what kind of day to day police presence is planned? Are, for example, police vehicles (empty or staffed) randomly parked in neighborhoods and moved?
4) are there any plans/discussions of having walking groups around light rail, especially during hours that are popular for people to return home (or go to work)?
5) what about police on bikes? That is used downtown and could be another low cost and mobile way of covering the neighborhood. Could neighbors/communities consider doing informal bike patrols? (get your exercise, be with the community, and help make the community safe)
6) what has the mayor's response been? I didn't see in the notes evidence of representation from his office.
7) were there any new tips provided other than the usual (have good outside lights, etc.)?

Jenn, my wife was also nervous leaving the meeting last evening suggesting we walk on the lighted side of the street. It was a great outpouring of concern from the neighborhood to demonstrate to the city that we have had enough. Now we need to hold the city accountable for action. Agree that last night should be the first of many meetings. Hopefully the city will be able to show us at the next meeting what they have accomplished that backs up their nice words. At the second meeting we as a community need to do our part as well by defining what we can do. Once we have defined our part we should also report our successes and areas where we need help.
